As recommended by many here I decided to test the backup of my Windows 10 HP computer. Here is what I thought was a workable backup that would enable me to completely restore my computer with saved system images if someday my computer was unable to boot into Windows:
1. A recovery drive on a SanDisK USB stick. This was created using the Recovery Media Creator that is included with Windows 10. It was created about two years ago when I bought the computer.
2. System images created once a month on a 1 TB Western Digital portable spinning hard drive using Macrium Reflect Free.
To test this combination I shut down my HP, connected both the SanDisk stick and the Western Digital drive, turned the computer on, followed HP’s instructions for selecting an alternate boot drive, selected the SanDisk stick and arrived at a blue screen with the following options:
Continue
Use a Device
Troubleshoot
Turn Off Your PC
I selected Trobleshoot and another screen appeared with the following options:
Recover From a Drive
Advanced Options
I selected Advanced Options and the next screen offered the following options:
System Restore
Uninstall Updates
System Image Recovery
Startup Repair
Command Prompt
UEFI Firmware Settings
I selected System Image Recovery and the next screen offered one option:
Windows 10
I select Windows 10 and the next screen presented a dialogue box over another box. The former said:
“Windows can not find a system image on this computer. Attach the backup hard disk or insert the final DVD from a backup set. Retry. Alternatively, close this dialogue box for more options.”
I selected Retry and nothing changed. I then selected Cancel and got a dialogue box that said:
Select a system image.
Unfortunately, no system images were listed and at that point I cancelled out of everything and rebooted into Windows.
Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong?
