I have a user who sent me a document created in Word. It appears as a normal document but when you click at the beginning to edit, a box appears around the entire text, similar to a border or text box, and prompts you to double click to open obect as a word document. It looks as though it has a frame around it or something. She doesn’t know how she did this. Any suggestions?

When the text is selected to give the ‘frame box’ right click and what did the pop-up have at the bottom?
      Format xxxxx
The xxxxx is what the object is.

When you right click, you get, cut, copy, paste, then document object with two options to open or convert, followed by show picture toolbar, borders and shading, caption, format object, and hyperlink. If you choose document object and convert, you get another box, convert to word document, if you click yes here, it converts ok. But we don’t know what kind of object it is, it doesn’t say. It just says format object. We don’t know how she created this object. She said she was just typing along and this happened….

          Hi Melanie:

This ocurrs when you cut or copy to the clipboard & then paste special as a Microsoft Word Document Object. It pastes it as an object (like a picture), but if you double click it, you can edit it in another window. Then it will update the picture. The easiest way to get rid of it is to double click it, select all the text in the new window, & copy it (Ctrl+C). Then go back to the original document, select the object, delete it, & then paste the text from the clipboard (Ctrl+V).

The paste special as a document object is the functional equivalent of pasting a picture in Word except the application that edits the object is different.

          Hope this helps.

So perhaps what happened was they were copying between documents and when they pasted this document they chose to paste special and pasted as an object. I wonder if there is an associated shortcut key?

Thanks for the info! I really appreciated the help.
