Is it possible to bold,italicize, or underline INDIVIDUAL words within a memo field? An upcoming project includes the need for a user to highlight certain terms within a paragraph. I would use a memo field on a form. My vision is to place a few command buttons so the user can click a button and have the next entered text be bold, then click again to return to normal text.
OR… any other ideas would be wonderful to hear. I would desperately like to avoid a ‘mail merge’ into MSWord if possible.

Not with a regular textbox. The only way you can format within a memo field is through the use of the RichTextBox activex control. You would have to write all of the command button stuff yourself.

Thanks Charlotte. Is this active x control a third party control or is it in access 2k? I couldn’t find it from the toolbox, or to register it.

The Microsoft Rich Textbox Control is not part of Access, but it should have been installed with Office 2000 Pro. To place one on your form, click the “More Controls” button on the Toolbox (it’s the last button in the standard layout). Scroll down the popup list until you see Microsoft Rich Textbox Control, version 6.0. Click on this item, then draw a rectangle on your form where you want the control to be.

Hi Dave,

The name of the file for the Rich Textbox Control is RICHTX32.OCX in your System folder (C:WindowsSystem, C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WinNTSystem 32 depending on your Windows version.)
