Text entry weirdness

I was going to post this in the non-outlook email forum, but it happened while entering the below, so I moved over to this forum:

I don’t use email much, so I’m not sure how long this has been going on, but when I reply to an email, I’ll be typing along, and all of a sudden, it’s like I’ve hit CNTL-V to paste something from the clipboard. Seems to happen only when I’m typing fairly quickly; I can re

da*n! There it goes again – it must be Firefox 15.0, instead of TB… I was going to say: I can repeat the same keystrokes slowly, and it works fine. Anyone know what’s causing this?

Apparently, when I typed the “p” of repeat, it put “re” into the clipboard, pasted “….Modem”, then I finished typing repeat. Weird!! Wonder if “Auto Save” is involved???

EDIT: Sorry, my wysiwyg editor doesn’t seem to be working either – the motorola paste should be bold/larger.

OK, never mind. I find that I have a lazy right hand which accidentally hits the ‘context menu’ key (just left of the Ctrl key). Hitting that, and then typing a “p” is the short cut for “paste”. A relatively new keyboard, with no palm rest has contributed to this new problem. Well, at least now I know what’s going on, even if I can’t prevent it.

Your story inspired me finally to solve my own little fat-finger mystery. The culprit turned out to be Ctrl+Shift. Hitting that key combination inadvertently has two effects: it changes the keyboard layout, and it turns the air blue. Anyway, I’m happy that you posted.

Turns the air blue, eh? LOL. Thanks for the reply, and glad I could help. My next step is to find out how to castrate that little context menu key, since a right-click does the same thing! 😉 I love solving these little mysteries.

The solution, in my case, was a free program called Sharpkeys 3.5. I don’t know if it would work for the Ctrl+Shift problem, though. It works great for disabling, or remapping, one key. I also tried another one called Mapkeyboard. It would not write to the registry – I think because I don’t have .NET 2. I do have .NET 4, which is required for Sharpkeys. Now, I can get back to my sloppy typing chores! 😉
