AskWoody PlusNovember 8, 2017 at 9:08 am #144725As he left Independence Hall on the final day of deliberation at the close of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, a lady asked Benjamin Franklin, “Well Doctor what have we got — a republic or a monarchy?”
“A republic,” replied the Doctor, “If you can keep it.”
(From the notes of Dr. James McHenry, one of Maryland’s delegates to the Convention, first published in “The American Historical Review,” vol. 11, 1906, on p. 618.)

AskWoody PlusNovember 8, 2017 at 12:55 pm #144750Da Boss is a responsible, informed — and patriotic — American. His political affiliations (if any) are not germane, and in any case, no one else’s business — except, of course those whom he may choose to inform (just like every other citizen).

AskWoody PlusNovember 8, 2017 at 2:34 pm #144764To [presumably] he who hides behind anonymity: you are free to assume (or believe) whatever you choose. Just as for Woody (and everyone else), my political affiliation(s) are none of your concern (and oh, by the way: your assumption is wrong).
Have a nice day.

goes to https://askwoody.com/2017/thank-you-for-voting
which is the page I was already on before clicking the link.I can’t see a “full post” – did you take it down?

You are currently on: https://askwoody.com/forums/topic/thank-you-for-voting/
(found by clicking on Comment on the AskWoody Lounge link)
The link to the “full article” is: https://askwoody.com/2017/thank-you-for-voting/
(same way they all work)I suspect the issue is that the full post reads:
“Every office in a democracy counts!”

AskWoody LoungerNovember 12, 2017 at 10:56 am #145213Oligarchy is more accurate. Democracy is an illusion that many are still hypnotized by. The US is not a democracy and is not even a republic anymore. Votes are meaningless in this legalized political system of unlimited bribery masquerading as a legitimate voting and government system. Orwell pretty much hit the nail on the head decades ago. All that’s left now is for people in this country to acknowledge reality instead of the fantasy that voting means anything anymore.
The US is an oligarchy. It is not a democracy, it is not a republic and your vote doesn’t matter to anyone except the person voting thinking he or she is making a difference. It is a sad state of affairs in this country today. The saddest thing is the whole world sees the US for what it is except the people living in the US. When that changes, then we’ll see some real progress.
