AskWoody_MVPMarch 17, 2020 at 6:00 pm #2208188only the v1607 LTSB 2016 / Server 2016 version got both a new CU (KB4541329) as well as a new .NET 4.8 update for 1607 (KB4550993) [MS Catalog recent search link for 1607 of 2020-03]
v1903/v1909 users will get their new updates next week between Tue 3/24 and Fri 3/27 (most likely either Tue 3/24 or Thu 3/26)

ManagerMarch 18, 2020 at 7:05 am #2208320Any idea why MS would be updating http.sys? Seems odd…
There’s a brand new primer on http.sys here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/aspnet/core/fundamentals/servers/httpsys?view=aspnetcore-3.1
Wonder if it’s related to the MS15-034 vulnerability?

AskWoody_MVPMarch 18, 2020 at 11:37 am #2208385Who knows
but it’s definitely non-security fix, otherwise it would be included with security rollup on patch tuesday“Http.sys is the kernel mode driver that handles HTTP requests”
they might fixed something related to the “Echosystem” Appraiser telemetry, or whitelisted some urls

AskWoody LoungerMarch 18, 2020 at 3:46 pm #2208452There’s nothing odd about updating http.sys. Why would this be questioned?
There’s a whole stack of bug fixes in this update that address specific performance issues that could easily be traced back to timings in the networking stack.
There’s also work being done on HTTP/3, and some of that might be included in this update. Or maybe there’s something in there to smooth out the handling of TLS 1.3 on older versions of Windows 10 that will not otherwise be getting TLS 1.3 support.
Or maybe they’re improving error handling and reporting.
Or maybe they compiled this driver with the newer version of the VC++ compiler that includes a software workaround for the JCC bug on recent Intel chips.
Lots of possibilities….

AskWoody_MVPMarch 18, 2020 at 7:40 am #2208327There’s nothing yet for Win10 1909. Exempt or not included in the catalog yet?

AskWoody_MVPMarch 18, 2020 at 10:39 am #2208362Apparently you did not read my previous comment.
1903 & 1909 users will get their new optional updates NEXT WEEK, whether thru WU or MUC (MS Catalog) – they always get their updates towards the end of the month.
So you have to wait until next week or close to the end of the month for any new 1903/1909 updates to become available.

AskWoody LoungerMarch 25, 2020 at 12:00 pm #2210812Well, for whatever reason(s) that memory-constrained laptop running 1809 apparently became farkled beyond my tolerance threshold, so I reloaded the original 1511 image to see if I could go directly to 1909 — I finally had employed this strategy in the transition from 1803 to 1809, as the multiple attempts to install (with multiple storage removal steps) had finally degraded the 1803 OS functionality beyond any other repair. Somewhat to my surprise, my hopes have been rewarded — Success!
The good news for 32Gb eMMC laptop users like me who have been stymied with OS upgrading for the Win10 approach to semi-annual replacements, if you have the original out-of-box image on DVD or USB stick (it should be obtainable from the manufacturer) and can archive any critical user data on external storage, the post-reload storage space available (particular after aggressive removal for pre-installed stuff) is more than adequate to attain successful direct installation of the latest version released.

Any new problems with Patch Tuesday updates?
Any indication that problems will be solved in subsequent, optional updates?
