    Hello,

I’ve been trying to work out a way to archive old email messages. I thought I had a good idea which was to create a new profile and copy the contents of my existing profile into the new one and then delete all emails after a certain date in the new profile and before the same date in my existing profile. The idea being to split the profile in two. However, I’m not so sure this works. The total size of my profile before splitting was 0.99 GB. Spliting the profile I end up with two profiles both around 0.7 GB each. I cannot work out why this should be. I removed newsgroups from one profile but that made no difference. I compacted before and after creating the new profile and I’ve checked to make sure I used the same date to create a list of files to delete. Can anyone suggest what might have gone wrong and how to put it right? I’d also like to hear of any good suggestions for archiving email using Thunderbird.

    Thanks,

    Chris (Hunt)

Have you tried going to your profile->mail folder and hunting down and deleteing *.msf files? TB should replace these when you restart.

As for archiving, I’ve heard that the mozbackup extension is useful for this. You could also try the mozillazine forums.
