I bought a multi port usb adapter because PCs and especially laptops never have enough ports for all the stuff we need to attach. This adapter had an ethernet port and 3 usb A’s so I could plug all that (keyboard, mouse, external display, ethernet line) into one usb port on my Win 10 laptop. Well it worked really great – for about 1o minutes. Then weird stuff started happening.

First, my Word froze. Had to restart PC to clear. Thought it was the latest update. Then trying to enter a 2FA code froze. Had to restart. Then again using Word it suddenly started typing continuously 1 letter over and over for ever. Had to power off PC to stop. At that point it finally dawned on me it was the adaptor sending junk to Win instead of a Win problem.

I think the adapter must overheat after 10 minutes. I even tried using just one port to see if that would help. Nope.

So I guess the tip is when you add something new keep that in mind for a while and watch for strange problems right after.

Hope this helps others with same problem.
