Outlook 2000 in O2000 SR 1: Composing new mail, we enter an e-mail address such as “xy@blah”, which is not in the Address Book. Outlook mulls this over for about 3 seconds, and changes it to the name represented by “nxy@blah”, which does appear in the Address Book. I’m sure this is some feature, perhaps called “Always use an address in the Address Book, no matter what you enter in the To: field”, but so far I haven’t figured out how to turn it off. Has anyone else seen this, and/or can you tell me how to get Outlook to use the address I enter?

is that address listed as email 2 or 3 for the contact whose address is used? otherwsie, it should resolve to itself.

delete the *.nick file.

in tools > options > email > advanced, disable resolve addresses.

Apparently “resolve address” means “find something that’s pretty close”. The address entered, “xy@blah” differed by one character from the “nxy@blah” which was in the address book (no .nick file). Unchecking the “resolve address” box disabled the feature/bug. Thanks for the guidance.
