Now I think I know why most of my family & friends have gone to using Facebook instead of email for keeping in touch!
Like sooooo many others, I LOVED OutlookExpress but had to buy new PC which came with w7 so tried several other email programs including Thunderbird, Eudora, DreamMail, (not interested in web based like yahoo & gmail). I finally managed to install WindowsMail & I do really like it but am leery of losing it due to Microsoft Updates or whatever so have given some thought to trying Windows Live Mail on one of my accounts but now am sooo confused about changes in it that I’m about to throw up my hands! (I am looking for free programs due to small limited income.) What’s a person to do. :huh: :confused:

So let me see if I got this straight… you want a local email client because you refuse to consider web-based email but web-based Facebook is doing it right??

I don’t see the connection between losing OE and the growth of Facebook. Most of the local client programs you tried are far more similar to OE than are Facebook or the other web-based clients, so if it’s change you don’t like then Facebook isn’t the answer, either.

The growth of web-based clients like Yahoo and Gmail (and to an extent, Facebook) is largely due to the fact that they aren’t tied to one machine, and you don’t have to be in charge of maintaining the programs yourself.

Change is inevitable. Technology and standards constantly march onward. Remember, web-based services make changes all the time that they force upon users–whether they like it or not. However, those providers are responsible for making sure it keeps working. If you prefer to use a local client then you’re accepting that responsibility.

That includes responsibility for changing clients when old ones are sunsetted. If you really like Windows Mail then use it. Will it be supported forever? No, but nothing is. Use it as long as you can, and when you can’t then find a new client at that time.

Grits, have a look at this email client….eM Clients it has the look and feel of outlook/live mail. Yes it’s free, but limited to just 2 email accounts. Meaning you can only add 2 email address, you can add more if you get the paid version.

If you like changing backgrounds, animations and the like….incredimail it’s free and has a great GUI and very simple to use.

I have them both, but my primary email client is Oulook 2013.

Incredimail is total crap! Some anti-malware programs will flag it as Malware. Been there, done that!!

Yes you can Activate ‘Windows Mail’ in W7, by just replacing the msoe.dll file with the one from Vista. No big deal.
I do it all the time.

And YES, MS updates can screw it up. So unless you want to 86 the crap from MS, just make a copy of the Windows Mail folder and store it in a safe place, like a flash drive or CD, and when an MS Update messes it up, just copy the contents of the Saved folder back to the Windows Mail folder and all is right again. I’ve had to do that with several of my customers who want to use Windows Mail on W7 or even W8 and refuse to turn off Windows UPdates.

I too like O.E. and have it starting up from the Startup folder, every time I boot up my PC.

Now I’m trying to figure out, how to delay the startup of O.E. for about ten seconds, to give my WiFi time to connect.

It’s always something……Eh?

Write a two-line BATch file and put it in the Startup folder of your choice:
ping -n 11 127.0.0.1 > nul
start “”

I’m not going to do 3 separate replies so hope this makes sense.
No, I don’t consider Facebook alright. What I meant was that everyone else keeps in touch via that instead of email.
I took a look at your eM Client link in hopes of better screen shots but even reading through the users manual, it looks awful busy with lots of extras. I’d like a “plain jane” program more like OutlookExpress. Never used Outlook or Live Mail.
I know Incredimail is a resource hog, used it several years ago but at least it was more simple like OE. I’m sure you were referring to “Auto Updates” & no, I don’t, I choose when & what to update.

grits, I don’t know if this is something you would be interested in using or not, but I have used a little small program called POP Peeper for many years for my email program. I use to use Eudora and still have the last version that they released on my XP machine but just don’t have a need to use it and have not tried to install it on my Win7 machine. The pop peeper program and screen shots can be found at http://poppeeper.com/ if you want to take a look at it.

I did buy the premium add-on pack for $10 to get the extra functionality that it provided, but the program itself is free. It was easy for me to set up and I use it to check several different email addresses and has been a wonderful program for me to use.
