• Toolbar access to folders (2003)

Is there a way to access different mail folders through a toolbar icon? I don’t know how to write a macro or even if that’s the right approach. My goal is to minimize the use of the navigation pane as that is a real pain.

There’s a section named “Favorite Folders” above the “All Mail Folders” section in the bar on the left hand side.
You can add a folder in All Mail Folders to Favorite Folders by right-clicking it and selecting “Add to Favorite Folders” from the popup menu.
Favorite Folders will always be listed, and you can open them with one click.

You can also create Shortcuts; they are displayed in a separate part of Outlook, Shortcuts.

I don’t want to use the navigation pane at all. It takes up too much screen.

As a short-term workaround, you could use Alt+F1 to display the Navigation Pane, change folders, and then use Alt+F1 to hide it again.

Try this – Go to Tools | Customize | Commands. Click on the “GO” entry in the left pane. Then drag as many folders as you need to the toolbar.

With the Navigation pane hidden, Ctrl-Y will pop a folder list from which you can select any folder. (See under the “Go” menu.)
