Good morning. I am getting a new computer with windows 8 on it. My old computer has windows 7. I used the Windows Easy Transfer to save my files except for the windows settings. They are now on my external hard drive. When I get my new computer set up and running, I am assuming I go to the external hard drive to the saved file with everything in it and it will instruct me as to how to transfer them to my new computer. I have never done this before, so I am very nervous about messing things up. If there is anything I should know, I would appreciate any help on doing this correctly. This is my first post, so if I did it wrong, please excuse my ignorance. Thank you in advance, Karen:confused:

      Karen,

Welcome to the Lounge as a new poster!

When you get the new machine just run the Windows Easy Transfer program and follow the prompts. It will load you files right up. HTH

Easy Transfer in Windows 8 is located in the control panel under “File Recovery”, it’s at the lower left hand side.
When you get ready to do it, plug in your external drive and follow the menus…
