Transfer Windows7 to a new computer

I have an Acer W500 running Windows7-32 with a touch screen and only 2GB memory. It’s time to junk that dog and get something that will be much better. But why should I loose a perfectly good Windows7. I want to load it onto a new system and I don’t want to have Windows 8, 8.1, 9, 10 or whatever garbage is out there. The new system will be 64 bit of course and the Windows7 on the junk is 32 bit. I don’t think there should be any problem loading that on a 64 bit system. My next move would be to use my upgrade DVD and one of it’s 3 licenses to upgrade my new system to Windows7 64 bit.

How do I do this?

You need to load Windows from scratch to get the x64 and drivers organised. Then you can use the Windows Easy Transfer utility to move settings across, but there is no guarantee it will move settings from non-MS programs.
I make a list of all the programs I want to install, collect the install files in one place, look up the backup routines for each, then backup the old, start from scratch and restore the bits I want. It’s not fast but I get what I want.

Because that copy of Windows 7 isn’t entirely yours in the first place.
(You will be limited by hardware differentiation and by licensing agreements).

That copy of W7 will be tied up as an OEM distribution that in many instances is NOT transferable.
Secondly, you cannot transfer an OEM 32 bit OS to a 64 bit machine and then make it run as a 64 bit OS without a formatted clean install.

The only thing that’s yours is the data you’ve generated and the 3rd party programs you’ve purchased.
I suggest you backup your data and make a list of all the programs you have installed. You can then look into
the viability of removing licensed copies of software from the old machine & moving your programs to the new system by REINSTALLING them legitimately and from scratch.

Don’t be thinking that you can get away without doing a little work.
