Transplanting Excel and Word settings to new machine

hello everyone;

i am installing office 2003 [MO] to a new machine.
i am also using MO in an old one, which i will dispose of.
i customized settings (commands, toolbars,etc.) in old machine, and would like to know if there is there a way to “transplant” these settings to the new machine without having to go through the whole configuration process again.

I have just successfully transferred Office 2007 settings from one Win7 32 bit computer to a new Win7 64 bit computer with no problems using Windows Easy Transfer. Looking at the FAQ, it does seem that this should work with Office 2003, and I think it can be used to transfer from Vista or even XP.

Thanks for your reply.
From what i have been able to gather, Windows Easy Transfer only helps to transfer from XP to W7, or between machines both running W7.
My scenario is between two XP machines.

daniel, try this:

Go to Microsoft Office/Microsoft Office Tools/Microsoft Office 2003 Save My Settings Wizard, and use this to save your settings on the old machine.

After you install Microsoft Office 2003 on the new machine, you can go to the same folder on the new machine and use the Wizard to restore the settings from the file you created on the old machine.

How about Office 2010, where “Save My Settings Wizard” doesn’t exist?

I can’t comment about this for Office 2010. I use Office 2003, which is what the OP asked about, but I would assume that a similar function exists for Office 2010 (emphasis on ASSUME).

There is a third party program Office Backup Wizard. It is not free – costs $49.95 USD per license. You could also try Windows Easy Transfer if you have Vista, Win7, or Win8.
