    Hi,

I’ve had a look but couldn’t find anything in my search that deals with my problem. I have the feeling it can’t be done but will ask just in case someone knows a workaround.

I have a stacked graph with 3 values covering a 2 year period. I’ve been asked to put a trendline on just the first value. Excel doesn’t seem to want to allow it. I can get a trendline which is for the total of all 3 values. Or as in the attached example if I change it to a clustered column rather than a stacked column I can get the trendline.

Does anyone know a way to put the trendline on the stacked graph or should I just tell my manager, it’s not possible.

    Thanks

      See the attached version.
I created the data for the trend line as a separate series, using an array formula with the TREND function.
I added the new series to the chart using Chart | Add Data…
By default, the new chart will be created as a new column on top of the others.
I selected the new series, then used Chart | Chart Type to change it to a line chart. (If I hadn’t selected the series, it would have been applied to the entire chart).
I modified the formatting of the line.

        Thanks Hans,

It never ceases to amaze me some of the solutions you and a few others on this site come up with in response to peoples requests.
Managers never think about the limitations of software when they ask for things, it’s just “Give me this”.
I think most people who ask for help here are like me and have no one in the workplace to ask help, so finding a site like this makes life so much easier.
The people who help with solutions on this site are so knowledgable and creative in way they go about solving problems and don’t get half the thanks they deserve.
I have done searches on so many other problems and found the solutions I need in previous posts, and not wanting to push an old post to the top have not added my thanks. This site is an excellent resource for people around the world, and I have recommended it to many others, always stressing that they search first for their problem.
