I have found an activex component for triggering TWAIN devices, including scanners, on the internet.
(VintaSoft Twain control -VSTwain.dll – see http://www.vintasoft.com[/url%5D)
When I try the examples that come with the trial version for Excel 2000 and Word 2000 they work perfectly.
But I can’t get it to work in Access 2000. I thought I had gone through all the correct steps to register the component
(TOOLS/ACTIVEX CONTROLS ETC) and have put a reference to the dll in the visual basic screen for my application/database
but it refuses to work. Tried the regsvr32.exe method too but still no go.
In the example given the control seems to be properly registered and listed as an object.
But in my Access application it doesn’t appear, although the libary is shown in the Object browswer and all the methods and properties
correctly listed.
Am I missing some step here?
Please elucidate!

AskWoody LoungerMarch 28, 2004 at 11:31 pm #806065Yes, I worked that much out.
It’s funny: the sample given by VintaSoft is in Excel and it works fine. But now I’ve figured out how to use, as an alternative, the Kodak Image Scan Activex control that was there in Office 2000 all the time,
I’m having identical problems in both Access and the same Excel workbook. In both cases the control is present, the references are set in the Visual Basic module and the Twain controls are both registered.
In both cases (Access and Excel) the relevant object libaries appear in the object browser. But only the original Vintasoft example works – ie the one set up by the Vintasoft setup program.
It really seems like there is a third thing to do that I am not-so-blissfully unaware of.

AskWoody LoungerApril 21, 2004 at 5:42 am #817697I have made some progress with the Kodak Imaging ACTIVEX control that comes free with Windows (up to Win 2000 – not after).
But I have not posted my ‘successful’ solution because it isn’t very successful.
It seems to be very difficult to set the resolution and JPEG compression in code to any decent level.
If anyone has solved this let me know but I’m not hopeful as all the rare posts on the web don’t seem to have solved it either. -

AskWoody LoungerDecember 27, 2005 at 8:19 pm #991980I too wish to create an Access VBA application that will invoke control of a scanner, so I can have my way with it. Did you ever complete the project to your satisfaction? Whether you did or not, can you guide me in the steps required? Apparently you achieved some measure of success, and even if you got stumped by some details, perhaps I can build upon it. I would really appreciate your assistance!
