    Dell Inspiration 3558

i3 processor with 6 GB RAM.

I am trying to bring an old low end laptop back to life.  I had to restore to the factory settings and reinstall Windows 10 (original version on the laptop).  All is going good and it installed Windows 10 Home.  After all the updating it finished with

    Windows 10 Home

    Version 1511

    Build 10586.0

Windows Update says it is up to date and no more updates available.  It does not offer the quality updates to 21H2 or 22H2 (which what is was before it would not boot up).

How do I get this old Windows 10 version to update to 22H2?

    TIA

    HTH, Dana:))

It should digitally activate with an upgrade.
      Do you have a Win10 22H2 ISO?
Over the top upgrade? (May not work with that old a version)
Clean install with the 22H2 ISO?
      Upgrade from the MS website?

      Dana,

I’m in the process of doing the same with a Lenovo Laptop.
      17 3610Qm
      16 GB DDR3 PC3-12800
      400GB HDD

I was just going to setup a new admin account, remove the old account and then use Eraser to insure all personal data gone!

That was the plan until I tried to open PowerShell CLI by typing PowerShell in the search then selecting it and “run as administrator” a little box popped up saying it was not available and would I like the item removed from the list. I’ve never seen that before! PowerShell ISE opens up fine as admin.

So I downloaded the latest version of W10 and I’m in the process of doing an OTT install. I’ll report back when it finishes.

      Dana,

      Ok, success!
      Lenovo-W10Ver

The strange PowerShell message is also gone! Windows PowerShell CLI is not working properly.

Strangely, I forgot about doing the bypass for a Microsoft Account. When I got to that screen I just disconnected the RJ45, backuped a screen with the back arrow and it let me create a local account w/o any workarounds. It just asked me for “Who’s using..” then the Password and finally the 3 security questions.

      All’s good here. HTH!

Update: Looks like I spoke too soon! the latest version is .5371 not 3808. Currently running WU with lots of stuff to install. Will keep you updated.

Thanks for all the advice, but I found a much easier way to update.
At the link below you can download Microsoft’s Update Assistant. Upon running the app it correctly asked if I wanted to update from version 1511 to version 22H2. I answered yes and OKed the update. The App took over and finished with 22H2 build 19045.2006. Ran Windows update and now fully update to build 19045.5371. The process took about 2 hours for all the updates, but that laptop has never been fast.  I did not have to do an OTT install.
All seems OK and the PC is acting like it used to. Just have to get rid of some of Microsoft’s bloat to make it useful again.

The Update Assistant can help you update to the latest version of Windows 10.
