What are you trying to connect to? What brand and model of equipment / router / switch?
Do you have an existing network? Do you want to connect as a network or share internet only?
What version of Windows / operating system is on what computers?

AskWoody LoungerNovember 5, 2003 at 6:50 pm #739347I’m using a network adapter to share a DSL internet connection with a room next to mine, or trying to anyways. I don’t care about sharing files with them, just the DSL internet. They are already using the DSL another person is also sharing their connection via wireless router and adapter card, I’m just trying to do the same with them. The router they are using is by Netgear Model:WGR614. I am running Windows 98 2nd edition and they are all using windows xp professional. I installed the drivers for my PCI card, then installed the network adapter. The power light on the network adapter card is on. I checked in the control panel under system and network adapters to ensure that it was actually installed and it is. However, it still does not connect to the internet. Do I need to change some other settings or should it automatically connect to the nearest wireless router? What else do I need to do? The adapter I am using is D-Link DWL-520 revision A. (it has the large square chipset). Its an IEEE 802.11b, Wi-Fi compatible wireless PCI adapter.2.4 GHz Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum. Ad-Hoc mode and Infrastructure mode. (mine is set on infrastructure as I am trying to share an internet connection). Effective up to 230 ft indoors. Supports 64/128-bit WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) Encryption.

AskWoody_MVPNovember 5, 2003 at 9:08 pm #740133They (the other room) may have the a firewall turned on and have blocked ALL address’s they are NOT using.
Or
They have “Netgear WGR614 Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps Router” and the settings may be to allow “G” type only and you have “B” type. You also state that they are in the “Next room”, what type of walls are between the two?
