There are times when your Windows 10 PC or device just doesn’t want to work as it should. That’s when you might want to do some troubleshooting and see if you can improve things. Some of the best tools for that are the UEFI BIOS, which controls pretty much everything related to how your computer’s hardware works, and the Windows 10 Advanced Boot Menu, which gives you access to a useful system recovery environment. Unfortunately, getting to either of these places can be a lengthy process. One of our readers tipped us on how to make it faster, so we decided to dedicate this tutorial to show you how to quickly go to UEFI BIOS or Windows 10’s Recovery Environment (Advanced Boot Menu):..

Why so many ways of getting to the BIOS? And they all seem a lot more complicated than the “old” way of hitting the F2 key (or whatever key the manufacturer specifies). Which leads me to wonder what’s wrong with the “old” way?

F2 isn’t a global entry to BIOS for every PC (my Lenovo has a NOVO button) and you have to time the F pressing…
Starting to Windows 10 Advanced Boot Menu requires going through several menus…
I find shortcuts to be an elegant solution.

I realize F2 isn’t a global entry to the BIOS; hence my parenthetical remark “or whatever key the manufacturer specifies”, and I realize there is some timing involved. But I am wondering why one needs to go through several menus just to get to the BIOS.

The shortcut may be elegant but probably not something a non-tech user would understand or even think that such a thing would exist. And despite the article contending that a typical user probably never needs to get into the BIOS, I as a self-classified non-tech user have had several occasions where I needed to get into the BIOS.

Is the timing of pressing an F key that unworkable for Win 10? Full disclosure: I’ve never used Win 10 but this is just one more thing that makes me want to run as far and fast from it as possible.
