Does anyone know if there is any software/hardware in existence which allows two independently controlled mouse pointers on screen at one time using two mice?

What you are, in practical terms, asking for is two cursors – or focus points. AFAIK no Operating System has even tried to make this possible.

Just curious. What would one person be doing with two mouse pointers on one machine? I have my hands full with either one or using the keyboard to substitute for one.

I have some DJ mixing software on my PC and having only one ‘hand’ on the mixer is very limiting.

The idea is appealing, but I fear that both Windows and application software would have to be rewritten to make this possible.

You can install two different types of mouse now (for example a PS/2 mouse and a USB mouse), but they will control the same mouse pointer.

I fear that mixing on a PC is never really going to take off until two pointers become a reality…. shame!

It can be a great idea: to write an audio mixer program which mixer sliders can be moved by keystrokes. For example, slider 1: q-up, a – down, slider 2: w – up, s – down etc. Maybe such a program already exists?

This is an indirect way to look and I’ll also look but try searching at http://www.techtv.com and search for DJ Mixing/or Audio Mixing or Audio Software–do two searches–you want the second to search all archives. Reason I say this is that their shows, particularly Screen Savers and Call for Help often have on professional DJ’s and audio lab people with cutting edge software (being in San Francisco and close to LA helps). They also list a number of links when they do a segment like that.

Maybe you can get a “flight stick” or some other interface device with multiple controls to work with the mixing software? The gas and brake pedals that come with the Logitech steering wheel would be another possible option.

Two pointers is a BAD idea to the point of Evil Bad and Wrong type of thing (even to have multimice active requires driver level support)
though i suppose a primary > secondary > tetrary > ect listing could work sort of or maybe map the X axis to one platter and the Y axis to another

I think 2 pointers is an absolutely superb idea personally.

The problem with key strokes is they don’t give you nearly the kind of control you need. Ask any DJ and they will tell you this. You need the crossfader to react to the movement of your hand at varying speeds for slow to fast. Then you need another hand on the record to very finely control how it’s spinning. Scratching would be another example – try scratching using Z and X for the crossfader and / and ‘ for the record!!! Two mice giving analog like movement is the only way to do this. A touch screen would be another possibility, but then you still need to points on the screen to register clicks, so you actually still requiure 2 pointers I think.
