I have two hard drives in my computer: one is an 8-gig that I want to keep Win ME installed on. The other is a 30-gig hard drive that I would like to use as my primary drive with Win XP installed.

How do I configure the start-up so that it only boots the 30gig hard drive, but also allows me to access the 8gig from time to time as needed?

      1. Insert your Windows XP installation CD and restart your computer.
      2. When prompted, choose “New Installation”, then your 30 GB drive. You will get dual-boot installation exactly that you want.

      • By primary, do you mean as device 0, the very first hard drive in the chain?
      • Is the 30GB installed now, and
      • Is the 30GB a master or slave?[/list]If you don’t care which drive is which inside the PC, kaplinb’s instructions will do the job nicely. If you need to change the 8GB from a Master to a Slave and move things around, it gets a little more complicated. doh

The 30GB is installed and is currently the slave. Win ME is on both drives. I want to make the 30GB the master drive, using Win XP. The 8GB would continue to use Win ME and only be used on occasion.

        Thanks for your help
