UEFI Bios: GUID partition table support under Win 7 x64

Hello,

In a German computer magazine “Com”, issue 10 / 2011, page 58 pp I learned (too late)
how to install the x64 versions of Windows 7 on PCS with the new UEFI Bios, so they support
the GUID partition table for HDDs having a capacity > than 2.2 TB.

Does anyone know a trick how to enable the GUID feature on Win 7 x64 PCs where the OS was installed
the usual way by booting from the OS-DVD?

Not sure what the question is exactly but GUID refers to the disk only. So is it a MBR disk and you want to convert it to GUID? If so there’s no way without removing all partitions and then converting the disk and reapplying the partitions.

Does your UEFI recognize the full capacity of the drive? If not you’ll probably need to update the UEFI bios.

Not sure if I’m getting to the right point or not because W7-64b recognizes both UEFI and GUID partition table disks greater than 2.2 terabytes in size.

Exactly. The store were I bought the PCs pre-installed Win 7 for test purposes and I’d already installed a bunch of applications before I learned about the alternate method to set up Win 7 via the UEFI Bios. There’s no problem at the moment because all HDDs have 2 TB only. But in the future I may need to use larger HDDs and would hate to do all the work to configure the PCs again.

Please ensure you use UEFI boot:

1. Go to Boot menu and set the DVD-ROM drive as the first boot device priority.
2. Still in Boot menu, set UEFI Boot to ENABLE.
3. Press F10 to save and exit BIOS menu.
4. As soon as the system restarts, press F10 during POST to go to Boot Menu.
5. Choose UEFI: .
6. When prompted, press any key to install Windows from the DVD-Rom drive

Thanks, CLiNT. I now know how to install Win 7 via UEFI boot but looked for a trick to switch the partition style to GUID on a PC, which was set up the conventional way w/o lhaving to re-install the OS and all applications.
