This just started to occur, emails with a *.pps file attached will not open; I get an error mssg that my virus program is not letting it open and a “viewer is not available”.
This is a new development that just started about 2 weeks ago, prior to that time it worked just fine.
running office 10 and version 14 of outlook 32 bit

The presentation cannot be opened. Your antivirus program may prevent you from opening the presentation. To fix this problem, make sure your antivirus program is current and working correctly. If the problem persists and the presentation is from someone that you trust, turn off your antivirus program, and then try to open the presentation again. If you do this, make sure you turn on your antivirus program again after you open the presentation.also: “this file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it”
I am using a full version of powerpoint 2010
it all worked well for a long time and just recently stopped and is giving me grief…..

AskWoody PlusDecember 9, 2012 at 12:29 pm #1361973Update:
After several reboots still had the problem!!!!
More investigation and turning services on or off the problem is NOT as above
I turned these services back on since they did not seem to be the issue…..
Final result turned off:
“Steam” (for games) and who I think the culprit is:”Video Performer Manager”!!!
Personally I think the video manager is the issue but for now they are both off and when I get more time on my hands will try to put “steam” back on.
Thanks

AskWoody LoungerDecember 10, 2012 at 8:22 pm #1362142I also had this problem of PPS files refusing to open. I tried numerous solutions and finally found one that worked.
I downloaded ppsfix.exe from the Microsoft web site and instant solution, it’s about 40 kb in size. The only annoyance now is a temporary splash screen when the pps files open.
My version of Office is an older wersion, but if I remember correctly it also works for Office 2010.
A search of the MS web site should locate it.

AskWoody LoungerDecember 8, 2012 at 1:33 pm #1361919That appears to be a sound card driver:
http://www.file.net/process/hsmgr.exe.htmlNot sure why that would cause the problem but its hard to argue with your results.
