I have had Window 7 since it was released. Last Friday I reinstalled the OS. I had all my saved pictures on a separate partition on my hard drive. Just today I found the I am unable to view any pictures in one of 8 folders in my Picture’s partition. When I try to look/open one of the picture’s I get the error “You don’t have permission to view the object”. All of the other folders are viewable with just the one is not accessable. When I try to take possession of this folder I am told that I do not have permission to change the permissions. I am the only user of this computer and have only one account. Why can I not view or do anything to this one folder of picture’s?
    Any Idea’s?
    Jim

Forget it. I just fixed the problem and can now view all of the picture’s.

One way to do this is to change the ownership of the folder to yourself, and then to change the access rights. You can do this from the Security tab on the folder’s Properties dialog. Click Advanced, then on the Owner tab, click Edit and choose your account. Now close all of the dialogs. Sometimes that is enough to gain you access. If not, got back into the folder’s Properties dialog and either click on Edit to change your access permission, or click Advanced and change the permissions there.

Of course, to do this you need the Security tab, which I know is in the Enterprise, Professional and Ultimate version. As far as I know it is not in Home Premium.

      Peter,
I have Win 7 Home Premium and it does have the Security Tab and then the tab “Owner” to change the permissions. I found the answer using the built in Help that is referenced by links in the pages to change permisssions. I had tried to do this but could not get the correct way but I read the help pages and they led me to the right combination of steps to get the ownership changed.

A guy (girl?) called Geek Aviator over at bleepingcomputer.com always gave me links to that site when I first had Vista. Whois says he’s in California, but that’s all I’ve got. The howtogeek site has been very helpful for me.
