Last week, shortly after installing Office 2019 and the most recent Windows update, on turning on one of my Pc’s I noticed the activation warning in the bottom right corner of my desktop.  On further investigation I discovered that both the system and my Microsoft account indicated that the Windows version on the PC was Enterprise.

As it is a PC that I had free upgraded from Windows 7 I did not have a physical Licence Key which is what Microsoft support said I needed to fix it.  That or buy a new one!

I was able to recover as I had quite recently upgraded the hard disk to an SSD so could reinstall the old disc, update windows and copy the partition over the duff info in the SSD.  This fixed my Microsoft account and the PC.

Has anyone come across anything like this before?

Did you receive that Office via a home use/business license?  As the Windows 10 enterprise license is normally triggered by a Microsoft 365/Azure AD hook coming from a business license.

No – I bought it from a third party – 5 licence copy to replace my Office 2010 home and student that went end of life.   Have installed it on two other PC’s no problem and also reinstalled it on the problem PC with no issue.
