• Unicode Controls (VB6 SP5)

    Hi,

I know that native VB6 controls are not Unicode-enabled. I also know that the Office versions, with Forms 2.0 dll, are Unicode-enabled, but this dll is not re-dstributable (there is a way around this, but it involves installing a separate tool, ActiveX Control Pad, which I don’t want to install).

A few years ago, I saw some 3rd-party controls, one called “Unitools”, that are supposed direct replacements for the native VB controls, but I can no longer find these. So, is anyone aware of any 3rd-party controls I can use, especially if they are “direct-replacement”?

I greatly appreciate any help that can be offered!

Did you mean UniToolbox – Controls for Unicode development in Visual Basic?

The first hit in Google when I searched for VB6 unicode controls was Visual Basic Unicode Controls for Programmers and Developers. There are others too.

Thanks for the usual quick and helpful response, Hans!

Actually, I think there was a separate package called “Unitools”, but I might be wrong. I know there were many others. I will certainly start my research with the ones you mention, but would also be curious to hear feedback from anyone who has used these or other ones.

        Thanks again!

I found a reference to a software package using Unitools controls, but no direct reference to the controls at all. So my guess is that the developer of Unitools has gone out of business.

I am sure that you are correct.

Actually, while we’re on the subject….I don’t suppose you have heard of any .NET-to-VB6 forms translators? So, if we had some prototypes mocked up in .NET that we wanted to port to our VB6 applications, is there a tool to convert them, or would it just be the ugly manual process?

I’ve never heard of “downward” conversion, and somehow I doubt it exists.

              You’re probably right…thanks, have a good weekend.
