Double clicking jpg files no longer opens up my Paint Shop Pro although within “file types” the settings are correct. (“D:UtilsPaint Shop Pro 5Psp.exe” “%1”)

I have even removed Photo Ed via “add remove” Office 97 components, and though the check box is empty when I go back in to verify, it still pops up when I double click.

I have done all I can think of to reset this file type to PSP.EXE but to no avail.

    What have I missed?

      Here’s something to try:

From Windows Explorer, hold down the shift key while right-clicking on a JPG file. This will force Open With… to appear on the context menu. Select Paint Shop Pro as the program, and make sure that the little check box that reads “always use this program….” is checked. Should solve your problem.

I don’t know what version of PSP you are using but there is an option in version 7 under File – Preferences for file associations. That too should work.

Let us know how your progress, yes?

The problem described in my initial post had to do with the correct “file type” info being present but the jpg or jpeg files would always open with Photo Editor.

The “open with” entries were as I desired but they would not work.

I had to install Photo Ed since it was not listed as being installed on my machine in the Add-Remove control panel though it was both on the machine and in the registry entries which controlled the file open operation.

I then shutdown, restarted, and went through the Add-Remove components of Office 97.

I then shutdown, restarted, ran Regclean and performed another shutdown, restart and then checked the registry and all the offending entries for jpg, etc., were gone.

Double clicking of my files now results in Paintshop Pro launching.

None of this should have been necessary but the short cuts such as you suggest never worked.
