Decided to end my “relationship” with Norton Internet Security 2007, primarily because I didn’t want to renew the subscription and was noticing a slow boot that became more and more irritating.

So, I went to Avast anti-virus and Comodo Pro firewall. I ran Norton Removal Tool to supposedly rid all Symantec traces. Loaded Avast with no problems and then Comodo. A notice indicated that Comodo had found Sygate still operating. Finished the installation and ran the diagnostic, which showed Sygate Personal Firewall 5.6 installed. Searches for Sygate, sybergen, and SPF showed nothing. Ran Norton Removal Tool a second time. A Google search led to a number of links regarding uninstalling Sygate– one in particular seemed viable.

So I did a search through regedit and found the following which shows additional registry entries for Symantec and Sygate, doing the search after running the registry cleaner in jv16 Power Tools. Some of the entries listed in the above Hackfix link don’t exist: teefer.sys, wps.dll, plus a couple of others.

So, am I safe in deleting the registry entries shown in the attachment? If so, should I uninstall and reinstall Comodo? Comodo seems to be running well although it hasn’t detected any incoming intrusions but did check 7 outbound.

      Dennis,
If you no longer have any Sygate or Symantec products on your system, I sure would dump ANY mention of them left in the Reg.
When I finally got rid of Norton Systemworks, I was so determined to erase anything about it, I searched the reg for any mention of Symantec, Norton or Systemworks and deleted everything.

I think this shows just how much JUNK is left in the Registry over time and how it bloats without reason.

Thanks, Bob, for your input. I pretty much decided I could delete the relevant registry values because I have System Restore to fall back on. Any thoughts, though, re. uninstalling and then reinstalling Comodo?

As for bloat, I agree. JV Power Tools shows I have a 66/100 bloat scale. I don’t entirely understand that because I run the registry cleaner fairly regularly.

          Dennis,
I don’t know….I would do the clean out and then run Comodo again. If it appears to be doing OK, then I would leave it alone. If you feel better about doing the uninstall and reinstall, go ahead. Wouldn’t hurt.
