I have a table with a field called strProfileCode, Text, Field Size 3 with Default Value =Left(Command(),3), this works OK when a new record is created

Is there a way to set the above strProfileCode Default Value =GetProfileCode()

Replies

The Access help for Validation Rule explicitly states that you cannot use user-defined functions in the Validation Rule of fields in a table and of the table as a whole.
You can, however use them in the Validation Rule of controls on a form. Since end-users should never enter data directly in a table anyway, that shouldn’t be a serious limitation.
