    Hi….
I’m thinking about upgrading my CPU, so before I start, my current setup….

    Motherboard Properties
    Motherboard ID 63-204-0000010-00101111-110707-nVidia$ALV6V204_ALIVENF6G-VSTA BIOS P2.10

    HyperTransport Clock 800 MHz

    Memory Bus Properties
    Bus Type DDR2 SDRAM
    Bus Width 64-bit
    DRAM:FSB Ratio CPU/9
    Real Clock 246 MHz (DDR)
    Effective Clock 491 MHz
    Bandwidth 3929 MB/s

    Motherboard Physical Info
    CPU Sockets/Slots 1 Socket AM2
    Expansion Slots 2 PCI, 1 PCI-E x1, 1 PCI-E x16, 1 HDMR
    RAM Slots 4 DDR2 DIMM
Integrated Devices Audio, Video, Gigabit LAN
    Form Factor Micro ATX
    Motherboard Size 240 mm x 240 mm
    Motherboard Chipset nForce6100-430

    CPU Properties
    CPU Type DualCore AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2200 MHz (11 x 200) 4200+
    CPU Alias Brisbane
    CPU Stepping BH-G2
    Instruction Set x86, x86-64, MMX, 3DNow!, SSE, SSE2, SSE3
    Original Clock 2200 MHz
    Min / Max CPU Multiplier 4x / 11x
    Engineering Sample No
L1 Code Cache 64 KB per core (Parity)
L1 Data Cache 64 KB per core (ECC)
    L2 Cache 512 KB per core (On-Die, ECC, Full-Speed)

    Multi CPU
    CPU #1 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+, 2210 MHz
    CPU #2 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+, 2210 MHz

    CPU Physical Info
    Package Type 940 Pin uOPGA
    Package Size 4.00 cm x 4.00 cm
    Transistors 154 million
Process Technology 10Mi, 65 nm, CMOS, Cu, DSL SOI

    I/O Voltage 1.2 V + 2.5 V
Maximum Power 65 – 76 W (depending on clock speed)

    So my question is….
What’s my best option to get the most out of my setup & is it really worth it (ie. will there be any noticeable improvement)

    ——————————

    Next question….

    Current Graphics Card….

    Device Properties
Device Description nVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT Video Adapter
Bus Type PCI Express 2.0 x16
    Bus / Device / Function 2 / 0 / 0
    Device ID 10DE-0641
    Subsystem ID 10DE-0551
Device Class 0300 (VGA Display Controller)
    Revision A1
    Fast Back-to-Back Transactions Not Supported

    Device Features
    66 MHz Operation Not Supported
    Bus Mastering Enabled

Thinking of spending around £100 (157.8 US$), any advice on what to go for (& once again would there be any noticeable improvement) appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help proffered.

Probably not worth the effort. The boards AM3/AM2+ capability is cripled. What you’ll gain is not worth it imo.
Save up your money and build a decent system with an up to date board with DDR3 memory and, if AMD, make sure it is fully AM3 compatible.

      AM2 Compatible CPUs:

      AM2 Athlon 64 FX ADAFX62IAA6CS 125W Windsor FX 2800MHz 1000MHz 1MB x2 N/A F All
      AM2 Athlon 64 X2 ADX6400IAA6CZ 125W Windsor 3200MHz 1000MHz 1MB x2 N/A F3 P1.60
      AM2 Athlon 64 X2 ADX6000IAA6CZ 125W Windsor 3000MHz 1000MHz 1MB x2 N/A F3 All
      AM2 Athlon 64 X2 ADA6000IAA6CZ 89W Windsor 3000MHz 1000MHz 1MB x2 F3 P1.40
      AM2 Athlon 64 X2 ADA5400IAA5CZ 89W Windsor 2800MHz 1000MHz 512KB x2 N/A F3 All
      AM2 Athlon 64 X2 ADO5400IAA5DO 65W Brisbane 2800MHz 1000MHz 512KB x2 G2 P2.20
      AM2 Athlon 64 X2 ADA5600IAA6CZ 89W Windsor 2800MHz 1000MHz 1MB x2 N/A F3 All
      AM2 Athlon 64 X2 ADO5200IAA5DD 65W Brisbane 2700MHz 1000MHz 512KB x2 G1 P1.30

Modest gains, if you can get a decent deal on a CPU.

      Thanks for the advice…

Gone for the new machine option, so will have this….

      Processor (CPU)
      AMD PHENOM II X2 560 (3.30GHz/6MB CACHE/AM3) – BLACK EDITION

      Motherboard
      ASUS® M4A87TD/USB3: DUAL DDR3,SATA 6.0GB/s, USB 3.0

      Memory (RAM)
      4GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (2 x 2GB KIT)

      Graphics Card
      1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX460 PCI EXPRESS – DirectX® 11, 3D Vision Ready

Hopefully I’ll see a reasonable improvement.
