We are currently testing the process of upgrading our PC’s to Office 2003. I had added buttons to the Utility1 toolbar in Access 2000. Then after the upgrade to Access 2003, the buttons are no longer on that Utility1 toolbar.

Is there some way to save that toolbar before the upgrade and then bring it back into Access 2003?

Custom toolbars are stored in a database, but customizations to built-in toolbars such as Utility1 are stored elsewhere, probably in a binary value in the registry, so there is no really easy or elegant way to transfer them. You could
      – Create a new database in Access 2000.
      – With this database open, create a custom toolbar.
      – Copy the buttons from Utility1 to the custom toolbar (Ctrl+drag)
      – Store the database somewhere safe.
      – After the conversion, open the database in Access 2003.
      – Copy (or move) the buttons from the custom toolbar to the Utility1 toolbar.

I followed your suggestion and created a new toolbar then copied the buttons from Utility1 to the new toolbar in Access 2000. Then when I opened the db in Access 2003, the custom toolbar was there with all the buttons. So that worked. Thanks.

I take it custom toolbars are stored in the .mdb itself and unique to that .mdb? And then the built-in toolbars are stored elsewhere and thats why any database can use them…

          Correct on both counts.
