I have a report on Twitter from @Maybeee2011 that his system, with “‘Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates'” unchecked,

GuestJuly 23, 2016 at 6:35 am #38955Win7 test machine: running GWX app, Upgrade enabled, other Win10-related updates hidden. Settings still “Give me recommended” checked, “let me choose” set. No upgrade to Win10 update, checked or unchecked. No downloaded install bits. Will keep checking from now till July 30.
Maybe the countdown GWX app is going to dump Win10 on everybody before (or when) it zeros out!
Wouldn’t put it past MS. -

AskWoody_MVPJuly 23, 2016 at 10:11 am #38956I disagree with that setting. I strongly believe the setting should be never. I have seen many cases in which the setting let me choose automatically updates if a user does not review and uncheck recommended checked updates before shutting down.
Never does not mean never update. It means Microsoft, I will not allow you to decide if, what and when I update. I have complete control.
In many cases, users are flummoxed because there is a background WU process going on. The way to stop that is a NEVER setting.

I still think you’re barking up the RIGHT tree here PKCano, who knows what MS has set for a “default action” when the countdown hits zero?
Has ANYBODY questioned MS yet about what happens if users make no choice?

AskWoody LoungerJuly 24, 2016 at 8:50 am #38960Possibly off topic…….. but was passed an email from MS re their Service Agreement and Privacy Statement…….. which interestingly the Service
Agreement comes into place on the 15th Sept ’16….
and the Privacy Statement will come into effect on the 2nd August ’16. Does the latter date ring a
bell ??
https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/servicesagreement/upcoming.aspxOn first glance appears to be rather vague….. as usual…….. but perhaps someone with a better eye
may be able to define their intentions more accurately… LT -

AskWoody LoungerJuly 24, 2016 at 8:59 pm #38962Actually was looking at it all further and found something which would be nice to have clarified by MS and failing MS others This was in the Privacy bit about YOUR CONTENT……… and I quote:
“b. To the extent necessary to provide the Services to you and others, to protect you and the Services, and to improve Microsoft products and services,
YOU GRANT TO MICROSOFT A WORLDWIDE AND ROYALTY-FREE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LICENCE TO USE YOUR CONTENT, FOR EXAMPLE, TO MAKE COPIES OF, RETAIN, TRANSMIT, REFORMAT, DISPLAY AND DISTRIBUTE VIA COMMUNICATION TOOLS YOUR CONTENT ON THE SERVICES. IF YOU PUBLISH YOUR CONTENT IN AREAS OF THE SERVICE
WHERE IT IS AVAILABLE BROADLY ON LINE WITHOUT RESTRICTIONS YOUR CONTENT MAY APPEAR IN DEMONSTRATIONS OR MATERIALS THAT PROMOTE THE SERVICE. SOME OF THE SERVICES ARE SUPPORTED BY ADVERTISING.Controls for how Microsoft personalises advertising are available on the Security & privacy page of the Microsoft account management website. We do not use what you say in email, chat, video calls or voice mail, or your documents, photos or other personal files to target advertising to you. Our advertising policies are covered in detail in the Privacy Statement. ”
WHAT DOES ALL THAT MEAN I WONDER……. ABOUT THE
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LICENCE TO USE YOUR CONTENT.
