    My computer’s motherboard was damaged by and electrical surge. I use Folder Marker Pro to add more colors and icons to differentiate the folders. The folders I used Folder Marker Pro on aren’t showing any of the colors or icons in the new install of 10. The ones that I marked distributable are working fine. I installed the free version to see if it would fix the problem but it didn’t.

    The ini files in XP reference:

    [.ShellClassInfo]
    IconFile=C:Documents and SettingsMarcApplication DataArcticLineFolder MarkericlColors.icl
    IconIndex=31

    The ini in 10:

    [.ShellClassInfo]
    IconFile=%FOLDER_MARKER_DIR%iclColors.icl
    IconIndex=1

    “C:Documents and SettingsMarcApplication DataArcticLineFolder MarkericlColors.icl” for all intents and purposes, this doesn’t exist in 10. I did try copying that folder over to the new installs “C:Documents and Settings” but it didn’t help.

    How do I fix the problem? I’ve contacted their tech support but there’s definitely a language barrier problem.

      Application Data in W10 should be in the %APPDDATA% folder. There is no “Documents and Settings” folder as such.
      Can you see an ArcticLine folder in %APPDATA%?

      cheers, Paul

      It’s there “C:UsersMarcAppDataRoamingArcticLine” but how do I get the colors and icons that are referencing the other to work?

      You should try copying the last part of the path “Folder MarkericlColors.icl” into the Folder C:UsersMarcAppDataRoamingArcticLine

      Then verify that %FOLDER_MARKER_DIR% in the environment expands to “C:UsersMarcAppDataRoamingArcticLineFolder Marker”

      You can verify this by typing “echo %FOLDER_MARKER_DIR%” into a command prompt window.

      I hope this puts you on the right track.

        It’s in roaming but the environment point to the Folder Marker folder in Progam Files (x86). Neither one of these solves all the ones that reference “C:Documents and SettingsMarcApplication DataArcticLineFolder MarkericlColors.icl”

      I assume Colors.icl needs to be writable? If that’s the case Windows may move that file to C:ProgramData. Is it in there?
      To access that location, Open Explorer and type “C:ProgramData” in the address box above the file list, without the quotes.

      cheers, Paul

      OK, it looks like more investigation is needed.

      Step 1: Find where the file Colors.icl is saved. Search C: for any files named “Colors.icl” if it finds more than 1 you should probably use the one created by the program during installation on Win 10. Call this pathname C:Colors.icl

      Step 2: You mentioned an “ini” file for windows 10 containing
      [.ShellClassInfo]
      IconFile=%FOLDER_MARKER_DIR%iclColors.icl
      IconIndex=1

      Try editing the IconFile line to read
      Iconfile=C:Colors.icl where is the path from the search.

      Step 3: Test to see is this resolves the problem. If not, try any other file pathname references found during the search.

      Step 4: If you found a copy of the Colors.icl that was created by the installation on Win 10, try to replace that (save a copy first) with the copy from your Win XP installation.

      Other than this, I am flying blind on any other suggestions. Good luck,

      Thanks! I tried using it to change the color after I renamed the existing ini file and nothing so I don’t know if any changes will make any difference.
