This is the 2nd time this has happened in about the last 2 months. I go to do a system backup and no USB drives are visible in My Computer. The USB HD I plugged in was recognized by the system and is visible in Device Manager and is working properly, but does not show up or open for use. I can see in Device Manager that under the Storage Volume heading that it is clicked open and 4 entries for Generic Volume have exclamation marks. Inside of the properties is this error message:
A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)
I have not done any driver updates. I have tried uninstalling each item and they come back the same way. I have also done the hardware change scan. I am running Windows 7 64 bit HP and do not have any other issues with this PC.
The last time this happened, I reinstalled windows which I really do not want to do again. Any thoughts, thanks
