This is the 2nd time this has happened in about the last 2 months. I go to do a system backup and no USB drives are visible in My Computer. The USB HD I plugged in was recognized by the system and is visible in Device Manager and is working properly, but does not show up or open for use. I can see in Device Manager that under the Storage Volume heading that it is clicked open and 4 entries for Generic Volume have exclamation marks. Inside of the properties is this error message:

A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

I have not done any driver updates. I have tried uninstalling each item and they come back the same way. I have also done the hardware change scan. I am running Windows 7 64 bit HP and do not have any other issues with this PC.

The last time this happened, I reinstalled windows which I really do not want to do again. Any thoughts, thanks

I found the problem and will be contacting the company that did this to my computer. Uninstalling the program resolved this fortunately.

If you don’t mind, which app was causing this?

It’s just that info on a app that is problematic could be good info to include in the thread so that others who are using this app can solve their problems as well.

Please consider including the info in the PM here.

I have already thought this over and have decided that I will wait to see what the company says about this first. This issue for whatever reason may only be affecting my machine or configuration. If it were some others, I would suspect seeing similar posts regarding what is a debilitating issue. I do not believe that this was meant to be malicious in any way, just perhaps an oversight that they can hopefully correct and publicize with an update. If anyone has a similar issue, I will be happy to provide my information to them. If I do not hear back from the company in their allotted time of 48 hours, I will probably post the issue on their forum.
