Over the last several days I created a PP presentation to show at a wedding rehearsal dinner. The wav file was inserted (via Insert | Movies & Sounds | From a File) and set to automatically run and then end after x slides. The presenation had several of these “segments” in the entire file. Prior to the actual performance, it was tested and everything worked well. The projector equipment was put in standby mode and the PC had PP up and running and the presentation set on the first slide, awaiting a mouse click to go to slide 2 and start the wav file. When it came time for the “performance”, it started as expected, but the wav file ended about 2 slides before is was supposed to. The same thing happened on the next segment as well. The third and fourth segments played just fine. Can anyone tell me why this can happen, and is there a way of preventing it?

Point to Note: I have done a number of presentations like this; some work as expected time after time, others seems to have this problem on occassion. I have also run the presentations from PPT and PPS file saves with the same type of result.

Thanks for any help in explaining this.

I’ll assume that the wave file was “x” seconds long and was expected to ‘cover’ “Y” number of (several) slides?

I’ve noticed timing issues from PC to PC of several seconds. I’m not sure if this is due to video memory and the speed of display or system clocks or the current dust storm index on Jupiter.

I have no idea of a fix and only one poor work around. The only thing I’ve done is more segmenting on long “kiosk” type self-running shows, playing the sound longer than needed, then restarting another sound file in each segment.

        Grant,
Your assumptions are correct. X can be several minutes (3-5) in length and Y can be 20-40 slides with different wav files and different slides used in the other segments. What’s puzzling is that even on the same machine with all other things (e.g., no other extra processes running) being equivalent I’ll get these timing differences when running them back to back. Not all the time, but on occassion.

Thanks for the reply. Anyone else have any ideas?
