Whenever I try an application that requires a “yes” answer on the UAC, the UAC has started asking for a password. The problems are that 1. There is no password and 2. There is no place to type it anyway. And my administrator account is now a regular account. I’m not sure if there ia a connection, but this started after I changed by boot up to go directly to this account rather than asking which account I wanted. Ironically I thought that this instruction was from Windows Secrets, but I haven’t been able to find it (to try to reverse what I did). Windows 7 HP, 32 bit

Tap F8 as you switch on and select Safe Mode with Command Prompt or you may have to try this again and select Repair your Computer and navigate to the Recovery Environment to select Command Prompt.

At the command prompt enter net user administrator /active:yes

      Enter exit then Restart

You should then be able to change the user account back to Admin and reboot.

Open a Command Prompt as an admin and enter net user administrator /active:no to hide the hidden admin account.

Unfortunately this approach did not allow me to modify any user accounts. If the purpose was to display a normlly hidden administrator account, it was unsuccessful.

Are you able to use System Restore? Can you boot up your PC with a System Recovery Disc and run System Restore or sfc /scannow from there?

Actually there was a system restore choice which I was eyeing while I was going through the previous suggestion. That will be next up to try.

I could not restore through the recovery option (or any other way).

It turns out that, unbeknownst to me, the hidden administrator account was turned on in Safe Mode, while I was looking for it in the normal boot up. After I had found it, I was able to reestablish my previously existing administrator account. Thanks to both of you for your help.

Glad you were able to get it sorted.
