I would like to change my User Account name. I managed to do so once, but when I rebooted I was told that Windows had created a temporary profile and I found that although, for example, I could recreate my desktop shortcuts by dragging and dropping, the next time I rebooted the same thing happened and I had to drag and drop again. (I was unable to read all of the message about the temporary profile because it disappeared from the screen too quickly). To avoid having to repeatedly set up my desktop I restored my Win 8 C drive from an up to date Macrium Reflect image, but would still like to change my User Account name. Is there a way to do this without having to recreate my desktop, other than reinstalling Win 8, although I am prepared to do that if there is no other option?

This might be of some help. It will change the name on your start screen but not on the file under users on your C drive.

Roy, It is extremely involved to change an entire account Name. It might be easier to create a new account with the name you wish, and after getting it set up the way you want, delete the original. There are some many hooks in the account to many points that it is very difficult.
