Hi. Of course I’ve checked online, but the replies are all very complicated. My inclination at the moment is simply to reinstall Windows 10 Pro.

Anyway, what happened? Last night I encountered some files in my Windows install folder. I checked them online but didn’t find anything that suggested I shouldn’t delete them – so I did, and turned off my machine for the night.

When I tried to start it this morning, I got the error message mentioned in the title. I have a backup machine and looked for solutions, but as I’ve mentioned, the replies I found are all very complex.

Is there a program that I can install from a USB stick that, hopefully, will repair the User Profile Service service? At present I’m unable to get past the error message and can’t boot the computer.Error-Win10

    Thanks very much.

What is the path to the “Windows install folder?”
You checked online. Do you remember any of the names of the files you deleted?
Do you have a bootable Windows Recovery USB?
Do you have an image backup? And a a bootable rescue USB for your backup software?

Thank you very much for your reply.

        1. What is the path to the “Windows install folder?”
          I guess “C:\Windows.

          2. You checked online. Do you remember any of the names of the files you deleted?
          No

          3. Do you have a bootable Windows Recovery USB?
No, but I guess I can make one from another one of my Win10 Pro x64 machines. Of course the hardware is different.

If I used such a Recovery USB, would I at least be able to start the broken machine?

          4. Do you have an image backup?
No, but on the computer that won’t start, I have several Restore Points. The problem is that I don’t know how to restore them without being able to boot the computer.

          5. And  a bootable rescue USB for your backup software?
I have the installation software and SNs for all my programs.

Again, thank you very much for your reply.

No, but on the computer that won’t start, I have several Restore Points. The problem is that I don’t know how to restore them without being able to boot the computer.

Use a working computer and create bootable Windows 10 installation media on a USB flash drive.

Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

Boot the computer from the installation media.

Click Next on the first screen.

On the second (Install) screen, select Repair your computer at the bottom left.

      Select Troubleshoot.

      Select Sysem Restore.

The recommendation by Old Navy Guy did the trick. I didn’t have to reinstall anything.
