Userform – Example Required (Word 97)

I am trying to learn how to create a userform in a Word document. I wonder if anyone could send me an example of a simple one they have made so I can see one in action and how it is done?

Here is a very simple example. The zip file contains a template; put Test.dot in your Templates folder, then test it by selecting File | New… in Word.
If you create a new document based on Test.dot, a userform will be displayed automatically. You can switch to the Visual Basic Editor to view the design of the form and the code behind it.

There is an excellent tutorial: Build an Automatic Document Template for Word – An Introduction to Microsoft Word UserForms which is very well illustrated and explained. Not “base level” simple, but not overcomplex either. The working template is also downloadable here.

If what you are looking for in a “user form” is a Word document which is protected except for some fields, this attachment might give you some ideas. It’s an actual form I’ve trimmed down to just a few examples of user fields. I’m uploading it as “protected”, but there’s no password.

Sorry it has been a while since you sent me your reply and I am only just getting back to you.

I am completely intrigued with this form. How have you managed to make this with a section where a spellcheck can be done. I note you have a section break in it, but I can only find one.

Please tell me your secret?

“Secret”??? I learned about this unprotected section stuff in this forum!

If you view that attachment in “Normal View”, you will see “End of Protected Section”, then some writing, and then “Section Break (Continuous)”. Those are the section breaks.

Remembert, in a protected area, Spell Check is moot, since you can’t really change anything there. If you missed it, follow these steps for the attachment I posted:

1. Tools | Unprotect this document (no password needed.)
2. Select Tools | Protect , and you will see a dialog listing “Tracked Changes, Comments, Forms.
3. Select the Forms option, and the “Sections” button will be available. Click it.
4. Now you get another dialog, titled. “Section Protection”. Any section that is not checked will remain unprotected. These unprotected sections can be changed by the user, and even spell checked. The sections checked will be protected, and cannot be changed (except for user check boxes and fields).
