I have 3 users in a non-secure db that can’t edit records in a form. The users try to change data on the form and it says recordset not updateable. The users can edit the underlying query. The users just received new pc’s with access 97 and access 2000 installed on them. Their old pc’s had 97 only and they were able to update this form. I recieved the same type of new pc with only access 97 installed and I can edit the form with no problem. All users with only 97 can edit the form as well. Is anyone familiar with this? Thanks..

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerMay 8, 2003 at 6:10 pm #674864The users with A2000 will only have read-only access to the DB unless it was converted to A2K in which case the A97 users could not read it at all.
Without a FE/BE set up you can’t solve this one. You would need A97 at the BE tables and A97 or A2K at the FE forms, reports etc. The performance for A2K users would probably be a dog as well.

AskWoody LoungerMay 9, 2003 at 1:28 am #674963That isn’t exactly true. They have read-only access to the *objects* in the 97 database, but they can, in fact, edit data because 2000 can handle 97 tables. However, the query engine changed somewhat between Access 97 and Access 2000 and some queries that were updateable in 97 are not updateable in 2000 without tweaking. Often it can be just a case of adding the DISTINCTROW keyword to the SQL of the query, but not always. One big difference is that the 2000 query engine usually wants all the key fields on tables in the query to make it updateable. Some queries have to be totally rewritten to work in 2000.
