    greetings,

I recently purchased Acronis TrueImage 11. Here is my question.

I want to Clone or Image my current C drive to a USB Drive. However I do not want to switch over to the USB drive as my primary. I want to continue to use the current C drive on the Laptop. If I clone to the USB, and then not plug it back in UNLESS I want to use it as the primary, is this do-able?

Is this viable? Which method should I persue?

    Thanks,
    Brad

I’d recommend that you IMAGE the drive. That way if your USB drive is large enough you’ll be able to have more than one image on it.

Do you want to BOOT to this USB device?
If not, then an Image sounds like the best route to take.

Not all BIOS will allow you to do this and there is a rather involved process to attempt to “fool” the BIOS in to booting to USB.
Looks like it’s not worth it to me but you can read the article HERE

      Brad hello,
I am also a “new” user of Acronis TI-11 v8101, and have spent quite a few hours “fooling with it. (Also TI 2009 beta) First let me suggest that you “explore”
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay/?f=65%5B/url%5D this site is a good place to have most “TI” questions answered. Also “Acronis PDF TI -11 download”. In answering your questions, I would first “set up” a “backup location” on your “USB drive”. Next Activate “Acronis startup recovery manager”(PDF chapter 3.4) next do a “full image backup” to your “usb backup location ” and if you have enough space, one full backup image to the “ASZ” (acronis secure zone) IF you hadn’t already created one see (PDF acronis 3.3) Hope this helps, PS. I think that TI -11 is a good program as it has saved my (you know what) a few times now. Regards Plain Fred.
