I want to install my Windows 10 as a virtual machine on VMware.

How will I be able to register the installation since my Windows 10 is registered on the host (this) machine?

I have not used VMware to install Windows 10, but I have recently installed Windows 10 on VirtualBox. I did not activate it and simply chose the “I don’t have a license key” option when installing, but it is possible to purchase a license key at any later date and you can use that to activate Windows after installing it.

Note that a virtual machine is, for all intents and purposes, considered by Windows and Microsoft to be a completely different machine from your host machine, so Windows activations will not carry over. Thus, if you install Windows in a virtual machine, you either need to purchase a new activation from Microsoft, or use Windows without activating it.

      Sigh.  OK thanks.

Is that true for Office 365 as well?

That would count against the limit of your Office 365 installations.

Any OS you install in a VM which would require a license outside the VM requires its own unique license inside the VM.
