I’ve got a multiboot system with a different Office in each OS.
The main OS has Office 2003.
And I created a workbook with lots of XIRR functions using Excel 2003.

Recently, I’ve had a need to boot to the system that has Office XP.
And go back and forth between the two OS.
All of a sudden, I started getting a message about updating a Link when I opened the workbook under Office XP.
So I booted to the OS that has Office 2003.
Sure ‘nuf I got the same message.
The link was to ATPVBAEN.XLA, which seemed odd, as I’ve not seen that link before, and I do use XIRR a lot.

I created a new workbook, added an XIRR, and no Link was added.

So there’s sumptin about going back and forth between Excel versions seems to cause a problem.

    Is this known behavior?

    Is there a workaround?

I managed to restore things without the Link by fooling around, but there was no method in my madness, so I’m nor quite sure what I did to kerect the situation.

ATPVBAEN.XLA is a library that makes the functions from the Analysis Toolpak such as XIRR available in VBA. It is made available by ticking “Analysis Toolpak – VBA” in Tools | Add-Ins…

You need this library if you want to use these functions in VBA code, otherwise it is not needed. So if you don’t write macros involving Analysis Toolpak functions, make sure that “Analysis Toolpak – VBA” is not ticked in Tools | Add-Ins…

        I knew that.

But that does not explain why a link gets added, when I’m just using the XIRR in a worksheet, and only when I flip-flop betweeb Excel 2003 and Excel 2002 with the same workbook.

I’ve been using this workbook for a very long time.
