Using the Enter Key to Move Around in a Form (2003)

If, on the startup form of the attached mdb, you click the AGENDA button and then keep on pressing the ENTER key, the cursor only moves to the OssCom textbox but doesn’t go to the next text box in the tab order while it does if I use the Tab key. Is there a way to make the cursor move through the various text boxes on the form by using the ENTER key too?

The “Enter Key Behavior” property of the OssCom text box has been set to New Line in Field, while that of (for example) Giorno is set to Default. The New Line in Field setting enables you to insert a line break in the field by pressing the Enter key.

If you set the “Enter Key Behavior” property of OssCom to Default too, you can move to the next control by pressing Enter, but you’ll have to use Ctrl+Enter to insert a line break within the field.

It’s up to you to decide which behavior you prefer.

What if the field is a combo box; I want it to move to the next field when I depress the enter key; better stated how do you make the tab key and enter key function the same?

Can others verify this? For me (Access 2002 SP-3), pressing Enter in a combo box moves the focus to the next control in the tab order.

Sure does. As a matter of fact, try it with the calendar control on the startup form of the database attached in Grovelli’s first post…

Yes that is confirmed. I have created a combo with a look up and it moves to the next field in the tab order when I selected an item and hit enter. Also works with the tab key.

Apparently, pressing Enter moves to the next control for others. What happens if you press Enter in the combo box? And what happens if you press Tab?

I will look at the Event Procedure in the After Update Control; to see why it ‘s not moving to next tab item.
