Using wildcards in search and replace

I’m trying to find all instances of International Standard Serial Numbers (ISSNs) in a document. ISSN are always in this format: ISSN 2456-9876, i.e. two strings of four digits separated by a hyphen. I thought the search window should begin with

ISBN [0-9]@

but that won’t even find the first group of four digits.  What am I doing wrong?

Try ISBN [0-9]{4}-[0-9]{4}

The {} syntax is repeat the previous {Min,Max} times, so {4} says exactly four. Not relevant to your specific query but you can also leave one of them blank, so (4,} is a minimum of four times and {,4} is up to four times.

BTW, I’m sure it’s a typo but in one instance in your original post you’ve used ISSN and in the search you’ve used ISBN. Naturally these should be the same.
