We have a system which archives printed output from a system using mailmerge in Word 97. Normally the mailmerge produces a print file about 2K in size, whose contents can be inspected with a program which strips out the PCL and just leaves the text. Very occasionally a file is produced about 189K in size, which is entirely in graphics/bitmap format, where it is impossible to inspect the text using this PCL-stripping program. As far as we can see, all conditions are the same and there is no peculiarity about the mailmerege data which would cause the LaserJet 4 printer driver to produce graphics rather than text. It is not a matter of Word being left to run all day and gradually degrading (!), for this graphics print file can be produced right at the start of the day.
Has anyone come across this problem, or could offer any suggestions? Thanks!
