VB.NET setup (vb.net std)

I just recently bought vb.net standard and was about to install it yesterday when I was informed that a whole bunch of Windows component updates need to be made.

Being very neurotice about ‘updates’ that may perhaps destroy my well-oiled (and fantastic) Win-XP, I hurriedly left the scene to ask advice from the gurus at wopr.

Here is the question, Oh wise ones: Is this safe?

(ps it says vb.net won’t run right without the update – make me feel pretty much between a rock…etc)

While this is the right Board for .NET, have you searched over on the XP Board about updates? There’s been quite a lot of Posts there on the subject. HTH

You have to install the Windows updates.
If you read the readme files on th CD-ROM, you’ll learn why.

When the volume of .Net posts justify it, the Wiz will create a separate forum. Until then, we all learn from the questions and answers and get a feel for the differences between the versions.

Hi Howard,

I know why I have to install the updates. (Sometimes I hesitate a bit before taking uncle Bill’s advise – he doesn’t come over to my house to clean up the mess!).

My question was: Is it safe to do?

Maybe I should re-phrase the question: Has anybody done the update with Win XP installed and suffered adverse consequences?

(Please don’t tell me I am the first to try – )

All I can say is that I’ve had no problems with VS.Net of which I am aware.

Make sure to read te readme files.

During install, I got 1 warning from Norton Auntie Virus because I forgot to disable the script checking. Just accepted the script.

At run time, as suggested in te readme, there is a script that you’ll need to tell NAV to accept. But you only do that once.

If you have products that rely on MSDN for Help, make sure you do not delete the Oct 2001 library.
