I solved this: Win10 with Chinese language (and probably other non-Latin alphabets) does not recognize Chr$; ChrW must be used.
I have a Special Characters macro which displays a “floating pallette” (a modeless user form) that allows users to insert accented letters, typographic symbols and currency symbols into a Word document. This has functioned well for many years. With Wind10/Office 2016, we have issues in Beijing where the language is set to Chinese simplified. Insert of the expected characters, (almost) everything displays as a question mark. (See image below.)
I have found similar issues posted on the Internet, but so far no solutions. Does anyone have an idea how to remedy this? There are dropdowns for a, e, i, o, u, consonants, typog and currency. (The Euro symbol, dopdown at right, interestingly, appears as expected.
