I read in the latest Office Watch that the intention is to remove VBA from the next version of Word:Mac.

Do we know if this is a done deal?

I just — FINALLY — found that Office 2004 running under OSX is stable enough to handle my rather complex (and legacy) WordBASIC/VBA template solutions (BookWright, ScriptWright and PlayWright).

And JUST when I’m about to release the first of these ports to Word:Mac, I find that I have only one generation of Office (2004) on which it will work.

Needless to say I’m a bit frustrated and angry.

Anyone else out there developing for Word:Mac who finds the removal of VBA an irritant?

The suggestion that AppleScript can be used instead seems to me to completely miss the point. There are things you can do internally with VBA that I do not think you will be able to do — or do easily and elegantly — with applescript.

VBA on the MAC was always behind VBA in Word for Windows, and I expect that MSFT has no intention of rectifying that problem, so they are likely dropping VBA on the MAC and will be pushing folkes to use .NET based stuff, instead of VBA in Word for windows.
