On a reboot, internet connectivity (Ethernet) has been lost, though I still am connected to the LAN. There are no hardware issues. I tried “netsh winsock reset” to no avail. Naturally Windows Restore accomplished nothing.

You can see other network devices?
Can you browse to the router status page? Usually http://192.168.0.1
Can you ping the router from a Command Prompt?: ping 192.168.0.1
Can you ping anything on the internet?: ping google.com

      cheers, Paul

Try rebooting your router and modem then reinstalling the router firmware if those don’t work.  See if you can go online by connecting directly to the modem.  If so, your router is the issue.   (All of those assume your modem and router are separate devices.)  Reboot your computer again after the modem/router reboot.

Try entering 192.168.1.1 into a newly opened browser URL bar and see if you can access it.  Same with modem except 192.168.100.1.  Clear cookies first or use a newly opened browser session. (those LAN IP’s are common, yours may differ.)

Does wifi work? If so, reinstall the ethernet driver from the manufacturer’s site, not Windows Update.  Can also be done in Device Manager with Driver Rollback under the Driver tab.  Windows Update often installs old drivers or incorrect drivers.

There’s a network reset feature in Settings: Network and Internet> Network reset.

Just wait, sometimes Windows takes a while to find a connection after a reboot and will fix itself over time.  Stupid but it happens.

I will try some of these, though the issue is not the router, since the other 4 systems on the LAN work fine with internet and in fact, the problem system works fine on the LAN.

This happens to me if my router gets too hot the dns stops working.  Solution is like what they said restart modem, router, any switches all network hardware and see if that helps.  Make sure the pc is using dhcp or static that you set up and auto dns.

Thanks to anon, Billjoy and especially to Paul who solved my problem.

Although I have full LAN access on the problem system, I could not get into the router software through the browser on the problem system. Then I noticed in the address bar:

      ” Routerlogin.com/DEV-access-block.htm”

So I got into router software on another system, checked “attached devices” and sure enough, the problem system was blocked by the router. I changed “blocked” to “allowed” and problem solved. The only reason I can think that the router would have blocked one system was that it was running during a thunder and lightening storm, so router blocked the one device that was online. Just a guess, but great work from Paul.
